Opening of Legal Aid Clinic at Longding
Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority(APSLSA) in collaboration with DLSA,Longding opened the first Legal Aid Clinic(LAC)in Longing District at the JMFC CourtComplex on16th January, 2020. Ms. Chesta Yadav (IAS), D.C.of Longding graced the occasion as Chief Guest and inaugurated theClinic.Dignitaries such as Shri Budi Habung, Member Secretary (APSLSA), Ms. Epi Kapu, JMFC-cum-Civil Judge (Jr. Div) & Secretary, DLSA and S.P. of Longding, Shri B. B. Reddy (IPS) were present at the event. Students, members of Longding Bar Association, LongdingStudent Union, GaonBurahs and CSOs were present at the event.
D.C. congratulateand applaud APSLSA and DLSA for establishment of the clinicin the district.Longding, being located in remote area of Arunachal Pradesh, and with lots of issues in the society, she felt it’s a great opportunity for the people to have this clinic and encourage the public to avail the services as much as possible. Besides the opening of clinic, an induction training for para legal volunteers(PLVs) and Legal Aid Counsels was conducted by APSLSA and DLSA, Longding teams at the Conference hall, D.C. office, Longding.The training covers the topics; function and activities of Legal Services Authority and Legal Aid clinic, roles and responsibilities of PLVs and Legal Aid Counsels and awareness about various schemes under NALSA and Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The training concluded with an interactive session, where the participants share their issues/concern in the community with regards to law and order and APSLSA providing suggestion for it.This clinic was opened with support of Dept. of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Govt. of India under Access to Justice North East & Jammu and Kashmir (A2J NE & JK) Project.
Apart from the opening of Legal Aid Clinic, the Member Secretary accompanied by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Longding, Ms. Epi Kapu and members of BarAssociationalong with theirpresident Mr. Wangtan Wangsu visited the Under Trial Prisoners(UTP) Cell the day before on 15th January, 2020, at Longding. They discussed about the challenges face by the inmates in accessing legal assistance due to lack of legal establishment in the cell. Member Secretary(APSLSA) alongwith the concern authority identified a room for opening legal aid clinic within the cell premises for the benefit of inmates and assured to take steps for early opening.
